so even though i still love CDs as an album format, i recognize some things are only available as vinyl or download. given that choice, i'll go for a download. i can always do a compilation or a mix myself later :) so i got myself a beatport account, and have been trawling through looking for stuff. it's a cool interface but of course somewhat time- consuming. so, i'm looking for dubstep recommendations. bear in mind my introduction to dubstep was through burial's first album. since then i've come to like the following artists and tracks: starkey moving ninja hektagon's "strange voices" shackleton "el din" kode 9 "9 samurai" Larvae "Gigan And The Mysterians" i also like meat beat manifesto's take on dubstep on most of their last album. i did NOT get into the bug or DJ distance...i found them both too much like real jamaican dub/reggae and too clean in production. looking forward to your suggestions....artists and/or tracks, especially those i can get on beatport. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Cthonic- If you're looking for dubstep, I would say sign up for '14 tracks' from boomkat - http://14tracks.com/ - their picks, while not always dubstep per se, are consistently spot-on, in a decent player format, curated weekly around a loose theme. Yeah, they're ace. Also Applepips releases in a similar sort of vein. Skream has some really good techno influenced stuff, and he also has some fairly tedious robo-fart wobble stuff. It's probably worth digging through to find the good stuff, though. Mala is the king - get stuff like Lean Forward, Left Leg Out, Bury Da Bwoy, Anti War Dub for ruff housey vibes with a deep melancholy core. Brilliant. Loefah is deep too, in a heavy, minimal, sloooooowwwww sort of way. And yeah, you've already got some Hyperdub stuff, but pretty much anything on the label or by associated artists is worth checking out - Kode 9 is a genius, Ikonika for 8 bit bleepy madness, Zomby and Rustie and Darkstar, Samiyam and Flying Lotus for wonky hip hop. I'm quite excited about dubstep at the moment - it seems to be rushing in all directions at once at a considerable rate, it's cool... d.
