Terre Thaemlitz G.R.R.L. (Comatonse/US) EXPERIMENTAL What does one of the most notorious contemporary ambient producers do in the face of a 'market' which demands releases fall in line with rigid production categories? He plants his tongue firmly in cheek and rhythmically lets loose the juice. G.R.R.L. is decked out head to toe in the latest genre fashions; drum and bass, minimal techno, deep house, techxotica and electrocynicism. What gives Terre such an antagonistic license to ill? Quite simply G.R.R.L., skill. (Teep) Terre Thaemlitz Raw Through A Straw/Tranquilizer (Comatonse/US) AMBIENT Represses come along a lot like the re-initiation of an old friendship, each of you coming back together after having learned something new, yet, discovering you have both remained very much the same. Tranquilizer still squeezes my heart with deadly serious ambient beauty. Raw Through a Straw is an extended soulful treated piano Vs organ chop set adrift atop the steady funk horizon of a break loop. Take this opportunity to revisit an old friend, Ambient. (Teep) Ippi Tomei Electric Kool Aid Acid Test EP (Breath/??) EXPERIMENTAL To "rinse" is not a colloquialism exclusive to the drum and bass deejays, this metaphorical homily is professed too, by the experimental jocks...with records just like the Electric Kool Aid Acid Test. Sipping from the vial marked "Ippi Tomei" induces a sound collage of hurricane phlange drums which push around tornadoes of samples and leave the landscape littered with invincible wincing synths, thankfully a hip hop sonic janitor drops by to clean up the breakdowns. (Teep) DEMOlisten J. Stewart $tinkworx E.P. (poop03/US) The coming out party should be any day now for this techno debutante from the Old Well Apartments of Carrboro, North Carolina. $tinkworx serves up an excellently arranged and accomplished 15 (!) course DEMOlisten dinner of aquatic techno funk chimed out with hand crafted melodies and complex homegrown micro-programming. Pieces like "beats are drone workers" effectively amalgamate the plumpness of a minimal Dance Mania bassline with the determined complex beauty of Psyche. The end result is sharp as Sharks tooth biorhythms. (Teep) $tinkworx, c/o J. Stewart, old well apts. -AA1, Carrboro, NC 27514 stinkho@topsecret.net, (919) 967-7274 Label Profile by Teep Interdimensional Transmissions IT Fax 313 - 973 - 3148 bmg@monkey.org It does not take prophetic supernatural voices to impart the sad fact that the fine art of electronic music record making has more recently been blasphemed. But indeed, around the Celtic Hallowed day of Samhain, the voices inside Brendan M. Gillen's head were contributing to his acknowledgment that the time had arrived to lift the veil between past, present, and future and set the conduit of Interdimensional Transmissions into place. Each IT release delivers BMG's exceptional definition of "Quality Control" as applied to every detail of the record releasing process, be it the gentle twist on an echoplex or the bump up of feedback in a recording, or the physical spacing of the grooves and locks and color(s) of the vinyl. The message revealed to even the novice collector is that the Vision of Interdimensional Transmission is Art, and as I imagine BMG holding up the latest IT product, I hear him proudly profess, "...this is my statue." Interdimensional Transmissions Discography IT No.1 Ectomorph - parallax view/subsonic vibrations IT No.2 Ectomorph - stark ep IT No.3 Ectomorph - abstraction ep IT No.4 V/A - from beyond volume 1 IT No.5-7 will feature the talents of Flexitone, Shake, Soul Oddity, Krok, Synapse, Will Web, DJ K-1, Uni, Pullsinger/Tunakan, 4E, Latex, and Frankie Carbone. V/A From Beyond Vol.1 (Interdimensional Transmissions/US) TECHNO The instructions given to the super hero's of techno who have been enlisted to breath life into Interdimensional Transmissions first "various artists" effort were quite simply "take funk to the future". Volume 1 pulls the globe trotting talents of I-f alongside IDM poster boy Mike Paradinas (aka the mu-ziq) and Detroit Steady Rockers, DJ Godfather and Le Car. The outcome is a record which will charmingly further develop the bridge between the dance floor and the bedroom. (Teep)
