[ Communication 2003 May ] Nomorewords.net - Set up to promote the sounds and other activities, of the Amsterdam record labels Ann Aimee, Delsin Records, NWAQ Recordings and M>O>S Recordings. http://nomorewords.net [ Ann Aimee ] A new electronica label set up by Jeri Nairav to support the journey home of Ann Aimee. Hosting artists as Alex Cortex, CiM and Lucky&Easy. All artworks done by Amsterdam based graphic artist Delta. http://ann-aimee.net [ CiM - Noki Bay EP ] [ ANN002 - 12", released April 21th ] The second release of the label marks the return of Londoner Simon Walley aka CiM! CiM built up a big profile with releases for respected labels as Delsin and deFocus, for which he released his impressive 'Reference' album. This Noki Bay EP is his first full release after more than two and half years! The EP brings nine tracks in his trademark style, warm subtle electronics with a little touch of Detroit. The full sleeve artwork is again supplied by the man Delta! [ Sounds: please go http://ann-aimee.net ] [ Alex Cortex - Inward CTRL ] [ ANN-CD1 & ANN-LP1, coming June 2nd ] The Ann Aimee label comes with it's first full length album. Alex Cortex does the job, and his CD 'Inward CTRL' contains 24 (!) tracks, ranging from ambient sound scapes to complex rhythm affairs. As a whole it reminds of Black Dog Productions, Boards of Canada, The Detroit Escalator Co, CiM and likes. He perfectly combines intriguing melodies over rhythms with a little touch of the Detroit sound. Alex Cortex is a young, multi-talented guy from Germany and has done releases for labels such as Source and Klang Elektronik.. The brilliant pieces on this album, bring back some needed warmth & soul in electronica. The album comes in a catchy three-flipped digipack CD and full colour LP-sleeve, both designed by Delta Inc. (The double vinyl version is called 'Inwards' and comes with 17 tracks. The CD has seven tracks more, taken from the 'CTRL EP', released March 2003). [ Sounds: please go http://ann-aimee.net ] [ Delsin Records ] The label set up by Peel Seamus and around for several years, with artists like Aardvarck, Newworldaquarium, Dimension 5, Future Beat Alliance, Yotoko, $tinkworx and others, this label hardly needs any further introduction. http://www.delsin.org [ Dynarec - R Cam EP ] [ 38dsr/dnr1, coming May 19th ] Delsin suprises with some deep slamming electro! After the likeminded sounds of Optic Nerve (aka Keith Tucker), Amsterdam's eclectic Delsin-label brings another deeply talented electro artist. This striking EP brings energetic stuff, reminding to the earlier releases by Drexciya. The EP kicks off with a short spaced out Dopplereffekt-like jam. The second track boosts all dust out of the disco, with it's hunting bassline and beats. First track on side b comes with funky intriguing melodies. Last track will shake legs as well, pumping energetic beats come with apocalyptic synth sounds. But it's not yet the end of the world, a full album is expected early next year! Check this. [ Sounds: http://www.delsin.org/38dsr/38dsr-a1.mp3 | http://www.delsin.org/38dsr/38dsr-a2.mp3 | http://www.delsin.org/38dsr/38dsr-b1.mp3 | http://www.delsin.org/38dsr/38dsr-b2.mp3 ] [ NWAQ Recordings ] The label set up and run by Newworldaquarium, themselves active through labels as Peacefrog, Delsin and Planet E. Saw one release so far by Newworldromantic. http://www.nwaq.com [ Aroy Dee - Kiss / The Planets EP ] [ NWAQ03, coming May 12th ] Written&produced by AD, overseen by the 154. Long time 154-compadre Aroy Dee comes with the goods on the immaculate NWAQ-imprint. Two bass-heavy pieces of euphoria bringing back the good ole days of smaller towns, over-anxious smoke machines, lousy cocktails and smiling shirts. Oh, and girls with perm, tracksuits galore and gittin down with the Pina Colada Magic Tour. We had the moves, the style, the action and the pussy, and we glance back at it with a slight touch of melancholia.. Tnx mr Dee, for bringing it all back....... ; ) [ Sounds: http://www.nwaq.com/nwaq03/nwaq03-kiss.mp3 | http://www.nwaq.com/nwaq03/nwaq03-theplanets.mp3 ] [ Upcoming Releases June ] [ Strand - Messages - 40dsr/str-cd1, coming June 9th ] CD compilation of Detroit's finest techno soul, add. two new tracks. [ Yotoko - All Creation Remix - 39dsr/ytk2, coming June 16th ] Floor burner warm-up for their upcoming 'Wet Ink'-album - produced by Shifty and Domu! [ M>O>S Recordings ] [ Aroy Dee - Goddess/Razar - M>O>S0001, coming June 23th ] First release on their own label, bringing you house music it ought to be! For the first time in ages I played my copy of Further Self Evident Truths by Bedouin Ascent - I've always thought this was a rather striking ep - chilly, spooky, but really beautiful - but I've never bothered to search out Kingsuk Biswas's albums (Science Art and Ritual and Music for Particles). I'd be grateful if anybody could tell me whether they're worth acquiring? Thanks in advance, Colin. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

The SA&R album might still stand up to scrutiny pretty well, but Music for Particles sounds like rather dated 'ambient techno'. KB is primarily a drummer, so there's a deal of bangs and crashes and percussive clatter, though the keyboard architecture is usually restrained and melodic in a sort of abstract way. For my money one of his best tracks is a long piece on the Vedic - 'Rhythmic Intelligence' comp, called something like _Ancient Ocean_. He also had good tracks on the 'Endlessnessism' comp on Dot and on 'Macro Dub Infection I'. alan/beyond...sound Quoting c.buttimer@mdx.ac.uk:

That would also be a fitting description for his Further Self Evident Truths - it fits that he was a drummer as his percussive programming is intricate and a lot more interesting than most (in similar fashion I always felt Palm Skin Productions rhythmically was ahead of the game). The overall impression is of a sort of outsider non-breakbeat breakbeat.

I don't know the other two, but I'd forgotten he was on Macro Dub - a fine compilation containing my favourite 4Hero track (Parallel in 4 Form). Bedouin Ascent does seem to sit alongside a number of artists who though active don't seem to have followed through on their mid- 90s promise e.g. Higher Intelligence Agency (Colourform/Freefloater), the aforementioned Palmskin and Beaumont Hannant to name a few. Cheers! Colin. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
