i just got back from a wonderful nighttime drive, up highway 101 and through san francisco, across the lower deck of the bay bridge to oakland and my house, to the soundtrack of plaid's 'double figure'. the shorter tracks started and ended exactly as i stopped and resumed driving at various traffic lights... the more frenetic moments coincided precisely with the jerkier pace of driving through the city streets, while the longer, more gorgeous and languid phrases flowed with high speed cruising in my sleek, black, powerful car, on the highway and across the bridge, while lights sparkled and reflected off the water around me...mmm, luscious. hurray for nights like this, and hurray for plaid! -rachel (aka dj pie) piesarenice.net -- "at this time you can feel balance strength and sphere peaceful levitating the window." --from the instructions sheet for my "magnetic suspension lamp" --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I have got a couple of tunes/Cds that do it for me like that while driving.... Inspiration by Stasis is something I always carry when going to Toronto! (its darn near culture for me).... Also, Aspen's Are U that Retail Snob, longer tracks put me in a daze..... Shit, the last time I went to Toronto--I had such a nice drive between Detroit and Toronto--when I got there--I told everybody I would have driven back to Detroit.....only to do it again.....(maybe I just have a driving fetish).... Slow-mo! np) Claude Young, Soft Thru CD.......yummy! ----- Original Message ----- From: dj pie Sent: Wednesday, March 20, 2002 3:04 AM To: idm@hyperreal.org Subject: [idm] driving pleasure i just got back from a wonderful nighttime drive, up highway 101 and through san francisco, across the lower deck of the bay bridge to oakland and my house, to the soundtrack of plaid's 'double figure'. the shorter tracks started and ended exactly as i stopped and resumed driving at various traffic lights... the more frenetic moments coincided precisely with the jerkier pace of driving through the city streets, while the longer, more gorgeous and languid phrases flowed with high speed cruising in my sleek, black, powerful car, on the highway and across the bridge, while lights sparkled and reflected off the water around me...mmm, luscious. hurray for nights like this, and hurray for plaid!

Omar, you must have been on the 401 between Windsor & Toronto, one of the flattest and barren landscapes in all of Canada. You're right though, playing things like Aspen & Stasis would bring you the most amazing thoughts as you're focused on the straight road ahead and the cows to the right in the corn fields. Interesting that someone would bring this up, it's happened to me quite a lot traveling to Toronto from Windsor for a record shopping binge/purge. Another delightful message here. I've also had the opportunity to drive the 101 "PCH" through areas like San Simeon and thru to Big Sur and surrounding. I have to admit that this is yet another beauty of life that can only be fully appreciated behind the wheel and with tracks from artists such as Plaid, BoC, Abfahrt Hinwil, Gimmik, and others in the same vein. It also helps when your one true love is holding your hand too.. it's truly an inspiring area to drive with the right musical backdrop. Oh, and considering that Francesca and i drove from Windsor to California in a U-Haul truck dragging a Volkswagen on a trailer without a tape-deck in the cab of the truck was truly an amazing experience. 2800 miles without a tape-deck in a truck, in the middle of Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona and others places is pretty incredible. You learn to make tunes by tapping on the stirring wheel and rolling down the window to some good old-school country music. Try that.. Believe it or not, we even met Stone Cold Steve Austin at a local Gas-Station called "The Pump & Pantry" in the middle of Nebraska on a cold night.. Correct U R Pietro, ....the country, as opposed to that concrete jungle, has a tendency to do this... ....thought-ju-knew! ....& it may be barren and flat, but there's a boat load of beauty contained therein......peace and Stasis...& most of all NOT 2 MANY PORKCHOPS shooting the fck out of me with that ray-gun!............C..........
