Yeah! I assume you're talking about those DJ dual CD players with neat features like speed control and built-in effects and scratch-like thingys. Anybody have one of these decks? What can they do? Are they fun to fiddle with at home? Are they useful for playing live gigs? What's the story on these babys? -Chris

Just for my $.02 worth, I bought a Denon 2700 this summer and I absolutely LOOOVE it! It is absolutely child's play to beat match with it (allowing you to concentrate on the infinitely more difficult task of mixing IDM, and figuring out what the hell fits together), with jog shuttles and 1/10th of a second cueing, and pitch control that goes either +/-4%, 8%, or 50% (and if you think you'll never use the 50%, think again - it is the most challenging, but can also generate the craziest mixes). It's got a looping sampler in it which lets you set up looping cue points on tracks, and save them to the memory to be called up when necessary. Apparently the 2500 offers a few more features than the 2700, but the transports on the 2700 are supposedly mechanically more sound (the 2700 is discontinued, but used models are still around). They are quite expensive new, but I located mine for $900 used this summer, a far cry from the $2000 necessary for Pioneers. So if you're looking for one, I recommend checking alt.music.makers.dj on a regular basis. Neal. .hive.
